On 4 July, the meadow at the Kaiserburgbahn valley station was transformed into a very special open-air cinema for the third time: with the Disney classic “The Jungle Book”, the Ö3 Silent Cinema Open Air 2025 whisked viewers of all ages away into the adventurous world of Mowgli, Baloo and Bagheera – surrounded by the unique scenery of the Carinthia's Nockberge mountains. Leaning back leisurely in their deckchairs with wireless headphones and popcorn, the audience indulged in an unforgettable film highlight which we’d like to share with you in this review. So settle in, read on and enjoy!
Mountain meadow turns movie theatre.
Right as the sun set, the rows of deckchairs filled with film fans big and small alike. Families, groups of friends and couples made themselves comfortable with blankets and snacks as the sky slowly transformed into a canopy of stars. The giant mobile screen and sweeping vista of the surrounding mountain landscape once again created a real sense of excitement – before the film had even begun.
A Disney adventure in the heart of the Nockberge.
This year, the audience selected the Disney cult film "The Jungle Book" in the online voting system. Whether as a childhood memory or new discovery, the adventures of little Mowgli in the Indian jungle, accompanied by movie classics such as “The Bare Necessities”, captivated big and little viewers equally and set their imaginations alight: what adventures might Mowgli and his friends experience in the Carinthian Nockberge mountains? A breakneck pursuit on the Kaiserburg Bob alpine rollercoaster or thrilling expeditions on the wooden raft?
Snack attack.
What would a movie evening be without snacks? The team at “Ski- & Bikerestaurant Zum Sepp” supplied visitors with everything a cinemagoer could desire: fresh popcorn, crunchy nachos and refreshing drinks. The perfect snack accompaniment to a cinematic experience under the open skies.
Cinema with headphones - a special format.
What makes the silent cinema so special? Instead of the sound being played over conventional loudspeakers, each guest is given radio headphones. Both language and volume can be individually adjusted, providing an entirely personalised film experience – almost like a private cinema under the open sky. No loud conversations, no annoying rustling – just you, the film and the breathtaking backdrop of Carinthia’s Nockberge mountains.
Another plus point: the environment isn’t disturbed either. Herein lies the original idea behind the silent cinema format: showing films in public or natural spaces without causing noise pollution in the process. Which is what makes cinema with headphones the perfect solution, especially for events in sensitive natural regions like here in the Nockberge mountains. While visitors are immersed in their own cinematic world, animals and the environment remain undisturbed. A film evening that shows consideration – without forfeiting any of its ambience.
A film-worthy summer evening that left visitors.
The weather? Fabulous. The atmosphere? Laid-back and informal. The backdrop? Unrivalled. As to whether and where orphaned Mowgli finds his place in the end – we can’t give that away. But one thing is for sure: the silent cinema at the Bad Kleinkirchheimer Bergbahnen has once again proven to be an unforgettable summer highlight. And who knows – perhaps 2026 holds the next exciting cinematic adventure in store? And hopefully you’ll be joining us (again)!
