Our ski touring tips

Whether you explore the Kärnten’s Nockberge Mountains alone or with a tour guide is up to you. We must, however, point out that all tours and routes are to be planned in line with the respective snow and weather situation taking into account the avalanche report and on-site conditions.

SKI TOUR TO THE MALLNOCK

From St. Oswald you either head towards the Mallnock via lonely forest trails or via the piste after the ski season has ended. On the outskirts of the St. Oswald skiing area you can ascent to the summit that offers great views of Kärnten’s Nockberge Mountains. When snow conditions are good, you can even head eastwards to the soldier’s cross from the Mallnock. From the soldier’s cross beautiful slopes take you down to the Falkertschutzhaus and from there via the tobogganing run back to St. Oswald.

SKI TOUR TO THE PEITLERNOCK

Starting point of this ski tour is the Innerkrems toll station, right next to the Nockalmstraße. From there, you head to the Nockalmhof and continue along the summer hiking trail 121 via the Bärengrube to the Peitlernock. Along the route, you are awaited by frozen mountain creeks, old larches and bent pines. The route is ideally suited for beginners, the broad northern slope guarantees varied descents. Please take into account the winter protection zone in the south of the Peitlernock, all the way up to the Hohe Pressing. Equipment tip: Suitable touring skis can be rented in the sports shops in St. Oswald, Bad Kleinkirchheim and Innerkrems.

SKI TOUR TO THE STEINNOCK

From St. Oswald the trail takes you to the Falkerthaus and to the Lärchenhütte. We pass the lodge, along the Hundsfeldgraben, where we reach the tree line. From here a fantastic view across the snow-covered landscape opens. Via open snow-covered alm slopes the tour continues directly to the Steinnock and leads back to the starting point again. A leisurely ski tour with descents in the wonderfully clean air of the Nockberge that will make your cheeks shine red and brings joy to your heart.

Guided beginners’ ski tour to the Brunnach

Ascent on the piste before reaching Gasthof Hinteregger along the hiking trail marks to the Schafalpe. After 1.5 to 2 hours, tourers reach the summit station of the Nationalparkbahn. Descent via the piste or along the ascent trail.

Costs: from 5 people € 45 per person / equipment rental fee € 19
Meeting place: Intersport Rent Brunnach Nationalparkbahn / St. Oswald.
Ski tours can be planned individually. Own equipment or rented skis, shoes, sticks and skins are available for a fee of € 29 per day. In the context of the trial ski tour for € 19 per day.
