ALPE ADRIA TRAIL

Carinthia´s MOUNTAINS OFFER UNIQUE NATURE AND CULTURAL LANDSCAPES

Over a distance of 750 km the Alpe Adria Trail leads from the Großglockner through the regions of Kärnten, Slovenia and the Friuli Venezia Giulia area to Muggia at the Adria. Under the motto Hiking in Garden of Eden three of the 43 stages – No. 15-17 – lead through the Nockberge Mountains biosphere park. From the Erlacherhaus hikers hereby head towards the Falkerthaus and the Lärchenhütte to Bad Kleinkirchheim and then to Arriach. The trail leads across gentle, lush summits though an impressive landscape, which does not bear the name of UNESCO’s biosphere reserve for nothing. No matter what the season, the special light situation in this area creates a mystical atmosphere that is accentuated by the intensive scent of the healing Speik plant, aka Valeriana Celtica. Magic places and mystical views are on offer along the way and make this section of the Alpe Adria Trail a memorable experience.

Whether as individual stage of the trekking trail or as a day-trip during your stay in Carinthia – consciously exploring the stages No. 15-17, listening to nature and letting your gaze drift into the distance is definitely worth your while.

Stage No. 15: Erlacherhaus - Falkerthaus/Lärchenhütte

The fragrant and blossoming diversity of species available on this stage developed thanks to the calcareous and crystalline bedrock of the Nockberge Mountains biosphere park. Three summits are to be conquered before reaching the goal of this stage, the Falkerthaus/Lärchenhütte: Predigerstuhl (2,170 m), the Pfannnock (2,254 m) and the Mallnock (2,226 m).

From the Falkerthaus and/or from the Lärchenhütte hikers continue via Hundsfeldscharte to the Falkert, then to the Rodresnock, which at the same time is the highest point of the stage. From the Rodresnock the trail gently descends to the Schwarzkofel, further to the Moschelitzenalm and via the hamlet of Zirkitzen back to Bad Kleinkirchheim.
